The Hungarian Air Force put on the best JAS 39 Gripen display I've ever seen in person during day 2 of the 2021 Kecskemét airshow. They really gave it their all in front of the home crowd.

Did I just see a *long*, inverted negative G turn. Directly followed by a pretty hard positive turn!? Hats off for the pilot

I am proud of having been a small part of the JAS39 Gripen development. As a young engineer at Ericsson Radio Systems, I did in 1982 write the original specifications for the graphics on the pilots four main displays.

We are a small country. What other small country has made their own fighter jet? I'am so proud to be Swedish. There a landing strips all over the country (small paymen roads) where this beast can land and take off. My heart beats with that soaring sound and it makes me feel safe that we are protected.

My sister was married to a test/demo pilot in Sweden a few years ago. I remember visiting at their cabin in the far north of Sweden one summer, while he was regularly stationed at a base nearby.
I was outside in the forest i saw and heard him and his squadron on a sortie as they briefly thundered by overhead. He loved flying the Vigen, Gripen an SK 60. Some stories I would hear, from him and his buddies!

Those days were surreal. Great memories.
I’m very sick now. My wealth is not material, those days seem impossible to think that really happened.
Thank you for this beautiful nostalgic moment.

Utmärkt! A phenomenal plane, considering its age. The Swedes really are at the top of the class when it comes to amazing tech, well ahead of its time. As a Brit living in Sweden as a Swedish citizen, I find myself feeling incredibly proud of the nation that welcomed me and protects me from the evils of the World.

Those pilots are a breed of their own, balls of steel.

I have never seen such a display. Saab should hire this guy as a test pilot. Shooting flares while in a loop, turning. Controlled decent while inverted. Thanks Hungary for showing us what this plane can do. I'm Swedish by the way.

My goodness, what a display. The JAS 39 Gripen is a fantastic aircraft and the Swedish have pulled a belter out of the bag and at such an attractive price per unit.

My biggest respect for pilot. And yes, this demo is by far the best one i've ever seen as well

one of the most potent and beautiful fighterplanes on the planet - done by (relatively) small sweden! Congrats!

Love the barell roll with flares, ending up inverted. Great show! ❤🇸🇪

How fun and cool it must be, to be a pilot having the skills to fly like that.

Never seen an aircraft do inverted negative G-turns before, no even in movies. Very cool. And from that directly into a positive G-turn too is quite something.

The pilot knows his plane.

It's really impressive to see a fighter doing a tight turn and not losing energy. This is the worst nightmare for a fighter pilot.

Such an amazing fighter! And for the interested, it can be seen doing aerobatics during the FlygFesten airshow in the middle of Sweden 5-7th of August.
And Draken and Viggen are also on the program. Not to mention a (Belgian) F16, the Norwegian, Swedish and Swiss air force and their airshow squadrons,
Jurgis Kairys, Spitfire, Mustang, Vampire, Tiger Moths etc etc.
People come from all over the world, in their own planes also. But really is a hidden gem. The largest airshow in Scandinavia, held every 3 years in a small village no one has heard of.

People discussing F35 vs JAS 39 are not really aware of what either plane is made and designed for. Entirely different mission sets and using entirely different Data links and support echelons. The Gripen is a cheap, highly maneuverable interceptor with extremely light reconnaissance and ground attack mode capabilities. You cannot go anywhere with an F35 without a ridiculously large maintenance and logistics train behind it. The JAS 39 can land on dirt paved roads in the arctic circle, go through basic maintenance and refueling/rearmament and be airborne again in five minutes.

You're not going to disrupt anyone's behind the frontlines tea party with a Gripen, but with a properly air refueled F35 sortie and a Growler in between the squadron you're dropping pancakes on anyone and anything whether they want you to or not. Whether the F35 has the ability to directly replace close in air support has always and currently is in debate, but this is not something the Gripen is going to wind up doing either. Pretty sure the primary mission set of gripen squadrons are to patrol coastlines and prevent enemy attack runs on coastal defenses and land based air defense and artillery. Something that seems to be pretty much right in the ball park of what the modern battlefield of Ukraine (with major peer-on-peer combat for the first time in decades) demands.

The 2nd most impressive JAS 39 demo ive seen. The best one i saw in Norrköping Sweden by a South African elite unit pilot. Most pilots fly along the axis of the planes mass-center, that guy flew around the point of the mass center. He could do some crazy maneuvering by doing this. Literally flying and turning on a knives edge.
