The Saab JAS 39 Gripen, also designated as the F-39 Gripen, is a fourth-and-a-half generation single-engine light multipurpose fighter manufactured by the Swedish aerospace company Saab. It was designed to replace the Saab 35 Draken and 37 Viggen in the Swedish Air Force.

I am Brazilian and I am very, very proud Brazil bought dozens of Gripen NG and I tell you, few days ago Venezuela Gov said they want part of Guiana territory after an US oil company discovered in this area the biggest oil deposit in the world and I believe one of the reason Venezuela did not invade this area is due the US and also due the fact Brazil has Gripens squad read to protect our borders. Thanks the Swidesh who believed in this great partnership with Embraer company, the 3rd large aircraft producer in the world. Thanks SAAB and thanks Sweden.

The Gripen is exactly what Canada needs, but the government is in bed with American interests and won’t go that route. It is an incredible machine, available right now….

It is an awesomely agile fighter plane at a low running cost with the best tech around. But it is all down to the system and how you use it. The idea is that Gripen is to be used in many and together with ground and naval resources, just like in a "normal war". Surveillance and radar are interlinked so that everyone sees everything anyone in the system has ever detected. That teamplay is the main reason why Gripen will kick all the rest to the curb.

A highly capable fighter with excellent speed and range designed and built in a northern climate with long distance Arctic operations in mind... if the Canadian government had any sense at all we'd have bought a fleet of these.

Instead we run slower, less capable FA-18's, designed for carrier based operations of which we own exactly 0.

Oh yeah and when those aged out we bought more, second hand, from Australia.

Oh Canada...
