I agree for the most part. Another thing to consider is that there's less churn. 3-5 years ago lots of people were job hopping frequently which left openings. Now, many people are staying put due to fear of layoffs and lower salaries. There's one "influencer" who changed jobs 3 times in a 2 year period during the pandemic finally landing a job that paid 400k+ tc. About a year ago he posted saying that every recruiter reaching out is offering far less than half of that even for jobs that are promotions. So there's no need for him to leave on his own

Another issue is desperate people are willing to accept garbage pay and benefits and it just makes it worse for the rest of us.
