I started at Cracker Barrel as a host and it was a NIGHTMARE, but it was mostly because of the guests and severs, guests never wanted the table you sat them at, so double seating and even triple seating was very common. Servers would literally just complain, complain and complain….

And the worst part about the restaurant industry is the favoritism that managers have on certain people. You could be an amazing worker and someone gets the better postion based on the managers personal liking and not work ethic. where I work the servers don’t pre bus and they get mad at us for their table not being flipped fast enough

It’s only my second week at Olive Garden. I started noticing that when we are low with servers we also will have to help serve, clean tables, and bathrooms 😑 Real fun🙄😫

I totally get what you are saying. I used to be in the restaurant business and was not very good at it. People drove me up the wall all day everyday even at night.

Wow--got some food for thought here. I'm just starting training as a host at the end of the week and this video has given me some ideas on things to check on or ask during my training. The last bit really would irk me, too, and I'd probably have to fight to keep the WTF off my face if somebody insisted on sitting at a dirty table that hasn't been cleaned.
I wonder if deep down they wanna treat someone like a servant and watch them work extra for their own benefit or something while scrutinizing how they do it. That's just bizarre to me, and I'd be embarrassed if I was a friend or family member of someone who insisted on a table still needing cleaning and prep. Wow.

I'm going to be hosting at a small asian bistro down the street. I hope it's not as bad as it seems because all the people saying hosting is bad at big American chains.

I’m starting my first hostess job and rotation is something I had no idea was a thing. I think that’s what stresses me out. The most is rotation.
