This was really confusing. Why is the torque out or into the page even though the motion even intruitvely is clock and counter clock wise? I understood everything else. Thank you.

Point of random trivia: The symbols of the Dot or the X are supposed to represent a throwing dart. So if the dart is moving away from you you would see its tail (X) and if the dart is moving towards you you would see its point ( . ). A pretty easy rule to remember those symbols.
