Repentance and water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of our sins is absolutely essential for our salvation.
The reason that it is, is because remission of sins is the new covenant type of the old covenants' antitype of the cleansing of the temple with blood and water to prepare it for the entry of the Holy Spirit.
. Paul said in Heb.10:2, that the blood of bulls under the old covenant was insufficient when it came to removing consciousness of sins which is guilt.
During water baptism, and because of the blood of Christ, the Holy Spirit corcumcises our conscience, removing the guilt from past sins, and restoring it to its' original childlike innocence from sin.
This is the " washing of regeneration"( Titus 3:5). The word " regeneration" means to restore something to its' original state.
The temple of our bodies must be cleansed, through water baptism and by the blood of Christ, before a believer can recieve the Spirit.

Honestly, I would simply like to know WHY we are even asking this question. The Lord himself was an exemplary representative of being "obedient" to the Father. It doesn't DEFINE salvation, in and of itself--rather, it is, on the one hand, an act of obedience and honor toward our Savior, and on the other, it's a beautiful way of saying, "Lord God, I acknowledge the "Type" that water baptism represents, that is, the "legal, " (not experiential) "washing" away of my past life. In my humble opinion, a question like this introduces a negative mind-set that could turn into a "watered-down" perception of the true meaning behind not only THIS, but other teachings of Christ. There's no need to ask. Just honor Jesus' example, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. God bless you all. Amen.

1 John 1:9 is Jewish. Confession of sins to God, implies that "confession of sins to God" refers to water baptism. Context means everything when it comes to faith in Jesus Christ. Today, we don't confess our sins to God for salvation. Today, we are to trust Christ, 1Cor.15:1-4; Eph.2:8, 9.

Their was a VERY GOOD Reason why JEWS were being Baptized IN WATER starting with John the Baptist and carrying over into Acts 2:38. And HERE is was the PURPOSE for those JEWS to get un that water at THAT particular time Acts 2:40 ►

This Water salvation Gospel does NOTHING BUT divide and cause confusion just like Paul said about that bunch in 1st Corinthians chapter one. Being WATER Baptized is fine for todays believers if for whatever reason anyone wants to do it. .but it is ABSOLUTELY NOT a requirement to be Saved !!! . Thank You for reading this
