You know it's a great song when the whole band are mouthing the words as they play.

If only Ed Sullivan had let them do the 7 minute version of this how great this would have been This sounds absolutely fantastic. Digital Remaster wonderful.

This is the episode of Ed Sullivan that got Ed Sullivan banned at our house. I remember sitting there that Sunday night. My normal bed time was 8pm but on Sunday Night I could watch Ed Sullivan because it was such a wholesome show. They usually left me alone to watch while they went upstairs to do whatever parents do when their kids are glued to the idiot box for an hour. On that occasion my Dad came down stairs to find out what the screaming was about, saw this song being performed then at the second scream he turned off the TV and said "That's it, no more Ed Sullivan, I'm calling that TV station in the morning to complain." I will never forget. I was 7 years old and had only just started the second grade and I felt so grown up.

"But you promised you wouldn't say higher". - Bob Precht, 1967.

Morrisson was a runaway train headed for derailment at an early age but his response to an enraged Sullivan or one of his flunkies when told he'd never do the show again; "That's okay, we already did Sullivan, " remains one of the best cavalier responses I've ever heard. He paid the price for it but there are posers and the real thing and Jim Morrison lived what he sang..."The futures uncertain, the end is always near."

Love the little smile on Robbie's face when Jim sings "Girl we couldn't get much higher". at the start of the song. The Ed Sullivan Show told them not to include this reference to getting high and of course The DOORS sang the song just as it was written. Jim Morrison and the The Doors would not knuckle under to that request. Bravo! Brilliant performance captured in time.

1:18 I'm living for the way that Ray gives a nod to John for the drums, it's so cute

Nobody could belt out a song like Jim could. What a powerful voice he had.

My grandpa was at the show, he has a picture of himself standing outside the Ed Sullivan studio in his garage, and every once in a while he’ll just stand and look at it all proudly😂.

I love the way Robbie smirks when Jim sings "higher" :)
The Doors were definitely an extreme band for their time. Just imagine seeing this for the first time in 1967. There was really nothing like The Doors.

Oliver Stone’s Jim was a drip. The real Jim was, real. He’s concentrating and delivering here to the television audience of millions, a genuine showman in the true spirit of the tradition. The doors were real. Stone blows.

In my opinion, this was by far The Doors’ best performance of Light My Fire, live or recording. Jim is in fine form unleashing his vocals to a whole other level! I also love the backdrop created by the Sullivan team, very cool! Jim’s parents must’ve been really taken aback when they saw their son live on the prestigious Ed Sullivan Show. Being a Doors fan for 30+ years, I always got the impression that Ray was the financial wizard of the band(he did graduate UCLA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics after all), and Jim and Robby seemed like they were very close, like “bros”.

This was a few months after the Stones appeared on Sullivan and performed "Let's Spend The Night Together". There Mick Jagger did as instructed and changed the lyrics to "some time" instead of "the night". Morrison refused to wimp out like that and stayed true to the lyrics. And the rest is history.
