Yes, you can use the lavatories on the ground while the plane is boarding. And just so you know pilots are very concerned about turbulence. If the "Fasten Seatbelt" sign is on because of turbulence flight attendants may still be up and moving and are subject to injury. And just so you know updrafts ARE turbulence.

You can use the bathroom while the plane is at the gate. But you're holding up passangers trying to board. or you can use the bathroom in the airport before you boaed. It's common sence reasons, you must stay in your seat while the plane is moving on the ground.

On a flight from Charlotte to Tampa in 2019, I noticed a lady who looked like she could have been Carrot Top's mom board the plane with a tall Starbuck's coffee. She used the bathroom once we got up to cruising altitude, and used it again right before we landed, AFTER the flight attendants were seated. (Of course, she was sitting in the window seat, so naturally, the other two people to her left had to get up to let her out, and then back in again.) As she went into the aft lavatory, I heard the flight attendant seated in the rear galley tell her, "Make it *fast*!" By the time she sat down, and the three of them clicked their seat belts, we were less than a minute from touching down. So, the next time you absolutely HAVE to have a tall mocha chocacino latte, be sure to book a seat near the lavatory. 😄
