The Japanese plan had been to disable the US fleet, take as much of the Pacific as they could, and they negotiate a peace when the US grew strong again. They severely underestimated the speed with which the US switched to wartime production and just how angry we got.

Knowing this now. I can see why my late grandfather never talk about it. It wasn't until his death is when we had found out that he was apart of the Pearl Harbor attack. And out of the group he was apart of. He was the only one that survived. I think that was what I was told. My other late grandfather was of mostly German heritage was never in WW2. Because of the fact he was dairy farmer. And from what I remember hearing. He did had to go around at night where he lived. To make sure all the lights were off at a certain time.

I know this channel is going to look over multiple important facts regarding the attack.

1.) The US Navy was already in the process of modernizing and mobilizing. The first Essex class carrier was laid down in April, 1941, the first South Dakota class battleship in 1939, first North Carolina class battleship in 1937, the first Fletcher class destroyer laid down in October 1941, the Iowa class was ordered in 1939, first Cleveland class light cruiser laid down in 1940, first Baltimore class heavy cruiser laid down in May 1941. All these ships would play a vital role in the Pacific War.

2.) Japan failed to hit the submarine base at Pearl Harbor. This was a major oversight by the Japanese, as the Americans would implement a similar submarine warfare strategy as the Germans. The USN used unrestricted submarine warfare and strangled Japan. The USN submarines accounted for 55% of Japanese merchant losses in WW2.

3.) Japan lacked the capability to strike the West Coast. This meant that vital American shipyards in multiple west coast cities could churn out ships without any real threat to production. The Japanese also lacked the ability to hold any ground long term in the Pacific. The US war industry was simply making supplies faster than the Japanese could destroy them.

4.) the USN carriers weren’t present at Pearl Harbor. The fighting carried out by American carriers would later become the stuff of legend, bringing the war to Japan as the American war machine mobilized. The USS Enterprise would become the most decorated ship in USN history for her actions.

5.) the Japanese didn’t destroy shipyard facilities such as the oil supplies, dry docks, and refueling facilities. The destruction of these facilities would’ve resulted in the USN being sidelined for at least 1-2 years.

Also you forgot to mention a vital piece of information....that the Battleships and all the other ships you mention were Secondary Targets. The Primary Target were the Air Craft Carriers, however they were 300 miles away.

Please do your research on aircraft, flags, uniforms, ships and history.
Japan didn’t use the B-24 and didn’t use the P-38 Lightning to drop the Atomic bombs, and the navies then didn’t use destroyers in this video.
