Ubuntu MATE 20.04 | Setting Up and First Impressions

In this video I take a look at the latest daily build of #Ubuntu MATE 20.04 and set it up for my general workflow. Come April time I will be giving all the final releases of each flavour their own in reviews.

Ahh, good old Ubuntu Mate. I used to use that for a good couple of years, the only reason I changed, was that it didn't not support colour management through Gnome color manager. Certainly a lot easier in Gnome / Cinnamon / KDE.

First: you made a really cool loking desktop!
Second: what you think about completely "snap-ing" the system? Lik if you install some software with apt, you get the snap version? Is it complete enough for daily use? (especially theming and startup time for me)

Ubuntu Mate is great for a new user as he or she can choose different DE's like for instance Redmond wich looks like W10.

I can't wait to install this on my system 76 darter pro when it comes in. I started experimenting with MATE on an old macbook i use for light browsing/youtube and have found I like it way better than Cinnamon or GNOME 3.

I love and use mate only because it is the closest MacOS experience. The only downside are poor themes and a poor email client

I'm always finding that since ubuntu 20.04 I'm facing a no sound issue. Other distros work fine but anything based on 20.04 has no sound and I cant find a work around. Any suggestions?

i m using vs code in linux its goes hangs so much if i open another window of vs code..?? but before that i used window 10 pro i opened 10 windows of vs code but didnt got hangs in window what is the problem

Whys is the Brisk menu still so buggy? It's been a part of Mate desktop for many releases and yet it still crashes regularly. Anyone know what's going on in its development?

I'm using Arch KDE as my main, now I want to install Ubuntu on second drive for a change but can't make up my mind between Gnome, Mate and Budgie, any suggestions?

Ubuntu Mate was always one of my early Linux go-tos. 'But', it was always a bit too 'flaky' for me with constant error messages... some of which you experienced again today! I'll try 20.04 again just because of my 'history' with it, but I'm not sure it will be that much different... I hope I'm wrong :) The other thing with Ubuntu Mate in particular is the icon theme... I'm afraid that it just doesn't appeal... to me anyway. None of the standard icon sets appeal actually. I know Mate is a 'golden oldie' as far as desktops go, but I do wish they'd look at modernising their theming... but I do understand that this is just a 'personal' choice/opinion here :) Thanks as always, Tyler, you make everything look so easy :) Oh, another thought... I thought Appimage Launcher was supposed to be a standard inclusion with Ubuntu?

Over the weeks, I've seen 3 of Your videos. The volume is 1 or 2 levels low. Typing noise is crisp & clear though? Work on Your mic physical or settings. We're all at a loss.
