It's great. Mate is a much appreciated upgrade to acclaimed gnome2 desktop. I hated stupid tablet like trend that Ubuntu took in unity and then gnome 3. It just kills productivity.
In the past few years, what I did always first after Ubuntu installation was to install gnome-fallback and get rid of the default crap.
Now I don't need to do that anymore. I go straight to Mate.

I like Ubuntu MATE. I think my main subjective issue with it is that it needs a nicer looking default theme.

Is it possible to make Mate look like OSX? I like how OSX looks but I don't like using it.
Also, how's mate with 4k screens? Does it look horrible like xfce or is the scaling good on it?

Just came back to Ubuntu Mate after 2 years. This version 20.04 is probably the best they have done compared to all their versions. So I will be using it and have been for the past 2 weeks and everything just works this is a huge change in their past distros that had many problems. Now of course for the future will future updates break and create bugs again or will they really test upgrades to insure current stability? We shall see or I am back to Arch Linux.

I have just installed it. Stable and very fast by rendering in Kdenlive. In other flavor of Linux it took 50 minutes to render a file, but in Ubuntu mate it took only two minutes. perfect!!!

I always loved Mate . Even 19.04 was my favorite. 20.04 is amazing. Now planing to try ubuntu 20.04 lts. and pop os. but i heard pop os has lots of limitations when compared with mate and ubuntu 20.04 lts. So lets see how it works out

Quite excellent review. For someone rather fed up with Garuda i3wm not working stably enough on an old Inspiron, I decided to return to old fav Ubuntu MATE for a spin. :-) Hope it works!

The Cinnamon flavour for me ticks more boxes. Mate is good but Cinnamon is far superior if your a theme addict.
