Remember you can only Wild Shape into creatures you have seen!

I let my players use their downtime and gold to research and go on expeditions to find rare beasts to add to their wild shapes!

... Or just pay the local Wizard to polymorph themselves into a dino for an hour so you can see it and Wild Shape yourself later!

I used those in CoS. The DM asked where I would have seen one before. I thought he’d got me, but I checked the Faerun lore and they actually happened to be native to the same mountains my dwarf was from lol

Slightly better idea, IF your DM is down for it: Be a Moon Druid with Monk levels, or a Monk with Moon Druid levels, and build a character who takes animal-inspired martial arts to an entirely different level.

The most underrated use of wild shape is for utility. People say that wild shape sucks on non-moon druids, not getting that it's intended to be a utility feature for them, for combat you're intended to use your spells not wild shape

One Shot we had:
All of us were playing Druids. We ALL shapeshifted into Dire wolves.
Our DM was not happy about the pack tactics :3

One rule some DM/GMs do to limit a Druids Wild Shape ability is that they can only transform into beasts they have observed themselves, so if a Druid has never seen an actual dinosaur before they can't transform into one.
So a good plot hook for Druids who want to capitalize on their Wild Shape is that they have to explore the world and observe every beast in it.

Okay, so, idk if this was purposeful or on accident, but showing the JP raptor (Blue) whenever you say deinonychus just makes me so happy.

For all who did not know, the "velociraptors" in the Jurassic Park franchise are misidentified purposefully by Crichton and his characters. The raptors in the books and movies are entirely inspired by Deinonychus as Crichton himself had been studying those specific raptors around the time he began writing Jurassic Park.

Reminder to DMs: the text for wildshape says “You assume the shape of a beast you have seen before”. So unless the Druid has a good reason in their backstory to have seen dinosaurs, they can’t wildshape into them.

Played a Lizardfolk Moon Druid who specialized in Wild Shaping into dinosaurs. That was fun. The DM after looking over the stat block, was fine with it.

I don't know if people are "sleeping on it" so much as "you have to have seen the animal before, and most settings don't have dinosaurs walking around"

PS: can we talk about how some animals are really weird in their statblocks? Like... Shouldn't sharks have something like blindsight via electro-receptors?
Like, the true superpowers of those animals are never there.
Another example, most Elephants can quite literally Remember anything they ever experienced. Even if it's some prick that hurt and annoyed them 30 years ago or even more.
