The Most UNDERRATED Summoning Spell in D&D

Summoning spells are super strong in D&D, here's an underrated but awesome option!

My kobold carries the entire bee hive everywhere she goes. Usually for attack purposes but also can be used as a way to terrorize my way into/out of situations cuz who wouldn't fear a swarm of bees?

I'm gonna abuse the hell out of this new spell knowledge.

I once summoned 8 poisonous snakes as my Circle of Spores druid and my DM was less than thrilled to say the least. TBF... they did kill a vampire spawn in 2 rounds by themselves

I think Summon Woodland Beings is pretty good too, you can choose various CR of fey creatures for an hour, some of which can cast spells.

Slightly off topic, but now I wanna see a party of entirely small-sized creatures in a campaign.

I've been playing a Firbolg Druid, Circle of the Shepard, so I do a lot of summoning. The only issue with this is actually finding the insects xD . Also, in reality the DM doesn't want to pick ur summons. As long as you don't summon 16 wolves with pack tactics whose attacks cause prone on a failed save. Just don't cause there to be 48 extra d20 rolls every turn and your DM will let you summon whatever, especially if you have a statblock and throw in some flavor :)

The DM doesn't choose the creature for Conjure Animals, he only has the stat blocks. The player chooses the creatures and the DM just gives them the stat block of whatever creature they summoned.

Most DM's run it your way and are generous with what can and cannot be summoned, but RAW the player picks the creatures, not the DM

I believe there is an exploit to always get velociraptors with conjure animals.

The spell specifies that there must be an unoccupied space for them to be summoned into, but the size of an unoccupied space differs depending on creature size. If you summon them into a tiny space, like under a 3ft table, only tiny creatures can be summoned there, and the velociraptor is the only CR 1/4 Tiny Beast

Conjure Animals:

*You* summon fey spirits that take the form of beasts and appear in unoccupied spaces that you can see within range. Choose one of the following options for what appears:



One beast of challenge rating 2 or lower


Two beasts of challenge rating 1 or lower


Four beasts of challenge rating 1/2 or lower


Eight beasts of challenge rating 1/4 or lower



Each beast is also considered fey, and it disappears when it drops to 0 hit points or when the spell ends.

In this version at least the player chooses, and summons multiple creatures
