Hyundai Inster 2025 review: Is this tiny new electric car the best cheap EV?

The 2025 Hyundai Inster is looking to redefine the electric car as you know it. For one, it's a lot smaller than the vast majority of EVs before it (think micro SUV), which means it's also set to be a lot cheaper. That's good news for buyers, especially those who live in the urban jungle, where a reduced footprint is preferable and range anxiety isn't a day-to-day concern.
So, what does the design-led Inster have in store? Well, two versions are available, with the Standard Range's 42kWh battery delivering up to 300km of WLTP-rated driving range, while the Long Range's 49kWh unit can travel 355km between charges. The single front-mounted electric motor produces 71kW of power in the former and 85kW in the latter. Either way, torque is 147Nm.
In this expert review, CarsGuide News Editor Dom Tripolone travels to South Korea to get an early taste of the new Inster – in prototype form – ahead of its Australian release date in early 2025.

You can get a GWM Ora Cat EV for AU$36K drive away now. As a smaller car with a shorter range, Inster needs to be priced lower than that to have a chance. If Hyundai can price this to around AU$30K, it would be a hit.

Yeah, if they are really serious about making a dent and getting the EVs on our roads in big numbers - the price has to be right! AUS$30k drive away seems appropriate for Inster, anything higher will br a slump take up… and biz as usual= low sales👎
