How To Figure Out How Much Stone I Need?‍

You will want to get the total square foot of the area you are trying to fill with stone.

This is the length times the width= square foot ‍Then you will want to know how thick you want to install normally between 3" - 4" is ideal.

You will need to convert this over to inches from feet. so you divide the total inches you want to use by 12.

example 3 inches deep divided by 12 = 0.25 ‍

You will then use this equation to figure it out - Total Square foot x depth(0.25(3 inches)) divided by 27 = yards needed, and we always round up to the nearest yard ‍

Example we have 600 total square feet needed to cover at 3 inches deep

600 x 0.25= 150 / 27 = 5.55 rounding up = 6 yards needed to complete this project. ‍‍

If you are wanting to figure out tons, you will then take the total 5.55 and multiply by 1.27 which will = 7.05 tons

Very helpful. Thank you. This is much better than pine bark mulching and blowing the mulch out each fall when the leaves come. I was able to calculate my 15 ton project easily thanks to you.

I want to cover a garden area with rounded gravel. The area is 4 ft. 16 ft and the depth would be 3 in. Each bag at the nursery is.4 cu ft for .5 cu yd. How many bags would I need.

i use this for mulch but looks like its the same thing

Total Square Foot X depth(3inches)
then you divided by 324(1cubic yard)

600x3=1800 / 324= 5.55

or

just 600 divided by 108(1cubic yard 3'depth)=5.55

i always get confuse with other ways so i keep using this numbers instead
1 cubic yard=324 square ft (1'depth)
1cubic yard=216 square ft (2'depth)
1cubic yard=108 square ft (3'depth)

1cubic yard=81 square ft (4'depth)
