I 10xed my improvement when I learned from Jeff that I have the freedom to do and try anything. As a beginner in classes, you're taught all these dogmatic "rules" (like never double up kicks and punches on the same side, always have your guard in 1 certain way, don't use head movement in kickboxing, etc.) which made me afraid to experiment with different movements.

This video is proof that there's endless forms, which can be intimidating for beginners, but it also gives you the playbook to start improving, mastering each counter/counter-the-counter one at a time.

Great review! Also thank you for your consultation on my CPMMA teammates' fights, and for reaching out for consent to use my footage of them! I appreciate you being transparent and respectful in communicating! I'm sure this will be motivating for them! 👍 Also hope to have you for a weekend seminar series at our gym soon! 🙂

A much needed video. I love anything IQ. It is the area that makes so many people plateau. It is often a neglected area of training. None of it should be random without any thought but many times it is 😂. You are one of the smartest out there and probably THE best narrator in terms of adding learning value. Super impressive collection of footage too!

Jeff I was a Police officer for 30 years, and as a relatively young Cop (6 years in) I was lucky enough to get partnered with an ex prison officer who worked in a high security high risk prison, He had joined the job so was new in policing terms, but very highly experienced with dynamic high risk close contact situations. I'm only 46 seconds into your video, but you struck a very valid note. The Police had shown me lots and lots of different holds, strikes, and moves. My time spent in the gym with my apprentice, I learned so much. His view was find several strikes, moves, blocks you enjoy and are confident using and forget the rest. That advice saved my life on more than two occasions. I dealt with all manner of street weapons and idiots. I'm no tough guy, but I can think on my feet. Confidence and practice practice practice with your comfy moves will pay dividends. As always another great video Jeff. Good defensive fighting is reactionary and a product of repeated practicing of counter strikes and moves. I have never fought offensively, apart from reacting defensively. We are different !

I feel like an amateur musician watching a pro doing high quality jazz improvs with strangers. It all seems so simple until you try to replicate those beautiful percussions.
