I was addicted to Twitter for years. Lots of good and bad on there but I ultimately just locked my account last year after feeling like I was drowning in a sea of other people's opinions. No idea what it must be like for someone in Elon's shoes or what such a platform means for future generations but I don't wish to return to anything like that again

Considering how much he likes to share his opinions it is not surprising he wants to make sure they can't silence him on Twitter.

On the question of his intentions around the purchase, I think we can look at past questions surrounding his intentions and safely assume both. He tends to align his "selfless" goals with his own "selfish" goals. This is clever, as people can't hate him easily for helping himself when he's helping others, and furthermore he has a following that defends his decisions for him. It's also very efficient in terms of gain (social/financial/end goals) to try and find a way to manage both sides at the same time; And as we know, efficiency is his drug.

Edit: Some people are taking this comment as an attack on musk, and I feel like it might be my use of the word "selfish";
I mean "to act in ones own interest" without the normally implied suffix of "with complete disregard of others". For example, breathing is technically a selfish act, but I don't think you're doing it in spite of others. I hope this clears up any confusion :)
