After months of legal drama, Elon Musk has completed his $44 billion deal to buy Twitter. And, like a lot of what Musk does, his path to owning his favorite social network wasn’t exactly straightforward.

You’ve got it wrong. Elon did not secure funding before Twitter accepted the deal. That didn’t happen until a few days ago right before the court case was going to kick off.

Elon claimed he wanted to rid the platform of bots, but after he got Twitter to agree to a deal without due diligence he suddenly didn’t want any bots. Elon must have felt he needed to wave due diligence and offer a lot more than the company was worth to make the deal go through. Giving up due diligence meant Twitter didn’t have to comply with any of Elon’s asks since the deal was also done. The time for asking questions about an acquisition is during due diligence not after the purchase agreement was signed.

Musk changed his mind about the purchase and couldn’t get out it. He screwed up at least three time: offering more than Twitter was worth, waving due diligence and reducing the companies value by crapping on it before being forced to follow through with the legally binding deal he made with Twitter.
