Instead of spaces you could use two tabulators. The first (left) should be aligned to the center of the page (invert T symbol), while the second (right) should be aligned to the right margin (invert L symbol). With this and captions, which hold auto numbering it should be pretty close to what we need. Hell knows why Microsoft struggles to implement ready solution for 30 years...
