Michael C. Hall, who plays the titular hero of the show, nearly passed on taking the role? Before filming Dexter, C.Hall had starred in the long-running HBO drama ‘Six Feet Under’ and the call to play a serial killer might have come too soon for the actor after his previous show had wrapped after five seasons on air. C. Hall has revealed to Entertainment Weekly that he asked himself, “do I want to be surrounded by dead bodies for another indeterminate number of years?” Thankfully for fans of Dexter, C.Hall opted in favor of playing the character and those who follow the show have the character’s “moral gray area” to thank for that.

David was always my favorite character in 6 Feet Under.

He was a serious, hard working man without much of a sense of humor and always living under the shadow of his older, handsome, carefree and much beloved brother and he always thought he was the 2nd son and 2nd favorite. But he carried the family business and was extremely kind, if flawed and selfish sometimes. Then his relationship with Keith which stretched the entire show's run from start to finish was beautiful. He was a great character.

The best part of the series is the morality question of whether he’s the hero or the villain. Is breaking the law morally justified when the victim is just as bad or worse? That’s why you love Dexter, even though serial killers are the most depraved people.

Most people don’t realize how good “6 feet under” was. Absolutely unbelievable series, MUST wATCH. There are small similarities between the Dexter and 6 feet under. Honestly just as good as Dexter
