Building a Collapsible Baton: Start to Finish

This is another one of my garage metal projects. I step through every stage to make this collapsible baton. Starting from steel tubing to a finished product follow as I build this and share the dimensions and lessons learned. This is an improved version of my original baton with better locking tapers. It is made from steel and in the collapsed form is approximately 9 inches long and 1 inch in diameter. When it is extended it is roughly 23 inches long. The handle is knurled and the baton is held in place by friction between the various tapers. I have several other homemade metal projects so let me know if you would like to see more. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions. Thanks, be safe and God bless.

I'm so thankful I found your channel. Unfortunately I don't have the skills, ability, equipment, or space to do any kind of making/tinkering although I've got a major desire there. Being able to watch your build videos definitely helps to scratch that itch. Keep it up man

Very good video and project! You explained everything very well, I've always wondered how strong these batons are, there is always a video popping up on instagram showing a collapsable baton smashing another baton! Thanks for the video!

How much did the steel tubing cost? Seems like a really cool project....

Do you use coolant at all? I didn't see any, and you kept taking about going slow. Use coolant and you can really speed things up.
