I'm not a fan of the locking mechanism on the snap on FHLLX80 ratchet . UnLocks faster than it locks and drive me nuts . maybe it's just mine who know.

Make sure you turn your ratchets off at night.

Rarely see anybody has more snap on ratchets than I do except the snap on truck. Glad to see someone someone appreciates ratchets just tools in general.

I used to be like this with a shit ton of ratchets but tbh just have one in every size type is enough with some of the unique ones

I have that one, have had the locking mech slip a few times, to be honest I don’t use the lock very often. It’s broken loose some stuck ass bolts, so it’s a good ratchet in my book. To each their own of course.

I have the same ratchet and it's one of my favorites although you're abolutely right about the flex head coming un done at times

I am married to no one brand and have dozens of brands in every drive size. Very few import brands in any drive size find their way into my box. I have been buying mechanic and machinists tools for over 45 years with over half of the tools i own bought used. A good percentage of the tools i own are older than i am, some decades older than my 63 years. Regarding ratchets, too many guys place far more importance on high tooth count than the feature merits. While that is a nice feature that i appreciate as well, that has never been a decisive factor in any ratchet i ever purchased. Only a few times have i ever found myself in a situation turning wrenches that was space restricted to the point it required the use of a high tooth count ratchet to do the job.

I place greater value in having a variety of ratchet styles such as long handle, short handle, bent handles, roto heads, gimbal ratchets, palm ratchets and oddballs like 3/8" drive in 1/4" body. These days, most of my purchases are oddball and specific purpose tools, but even those purchases are fewer and farther between with each year older i get.

Dunno much about that ratchet, but I love my green and black ratcheting screw/bit driver. All those clicks coming together like a pissed off rattlesnake feels and sounds great.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that has this issue

Husky makes a really good locking flex head. It’s essentially just the old style gear head locking mechanism. Holds up to abuse well.

I have two Snap-On 1/2" drive ratchets: A 1946 71-N and a 1958 71-M (military issue). Also, the 71-M is the quietest ratchet I have (I got around 60)

I swapped the switch around on my super long 3/8 and it helped a good bit with that issue, the dealer even said it won't effect warranty. I still like the older locking flex design better dont know why they got rid of it

I almost bought that ratchet a few weeks ago I was wondering how the lock would work I think I will stick with the other stile

I got one of these too and was super excited to get it I had my dealer order it for me before they were even out in my area and when I finally got it I do have to admit that I was disappointed! Sounded and looked like a good idea but your right the locking mechanism isn’t so great! I still like the ratchet and use it all the time though almost all my ratchets are flex heads anyways it’s just what I prefer and I really like having the extra long 3/8” drive ratchet too most ratchets that you see that are that long are almost always a 1/2” drive!

I will be the first to admit, I’m a snapon junky, but that ratchet was a huge flop. I had it for a short while and ended up trading it in for a Mac tools long handles locking flex head. Their design is much better then the snapon locking. Food for though, that greasy my friends

Price is outrageous!!! Give me 14 of them. Lmao

Matco has the best locking mechanism in my opinion

I have the shorter version of that ratchet. I actually quite enjoyed it, I put a thick grease in the locking mechanism so it doesn't move so freely, helps keep it locked or unlocked when you want it to be. I don't know why but mine just happens to be waaaay smoother than other D80 ratchets I've used

I got a smaller flex head, snap on, hard handel, with a different locking mechanism, pull down to release, shove it to the side to leave loose. LOVE that thing, gonna get a bigger one

Glad to see this I have a locking flex was actually looking to get a new longer one for a specific job I do pretty often can only reach it and from a distance and angle of socket has to be locked in for efficiency of course you can battle a regular flex head to get it done but I’m glad I saw this before jumping on their new locking flex head may look elsewhere or see if I can get the older style which I don’t love but for the one job I need it for I don’t mind the little slide tab on the bar, but we shall see maybe they will make another version in the future
