Five basic principles for layout and composition:

1. Proximity: grouping related items together to make it easier to understand at a glance
2. White Space: negative space; help define and separate different section
3. Alignment: if things are aligned, it makes the composition easier to navigate
4. Contrast: to catch the reader's eye, create emphasis. use color, size, shape, visual weight, or styles of text
5. Hierarchy: make important items more eye-catching
6. Repetition: things should have a consistent look and feel
