This is a good video explaining it well I think and it will be enough for most people - however.
When I learned about EMR many years ago (I am an electronic engineer) I thought this was quite easy. Just as you where saying I understood that it was pulsating between electricity and magnetism. Having many other things to think about I left it as that. Now many years later having time in my retirement I have started to think about it again (and many other things too).
I am now getting confused as I believe the magnetic field although 90 degrees out also should be out of phase. In my book we get a magnetic field when we have a current. Knowing about radio transmission from a dipole antenna the current is 90 degree before the electric field and zero when the voltage differential is at it's highest.
I have mentioned this before to other people on you tube and been told that this is correct in what is called "Near field" but not in "Far field" (that starts at one wave length away from the antenna). I have even seen calculations proving it but it still doesn't make sense to me.
The calculations supposedly proving it stated that the current would be highest when the voltage is highest but that is only the case if we work with a resistive circuit. Isn't there permeability involved? Isn't that inductance?
I can not remember the formula for EMR speed in a material (including vacuum)and couldn't find it in a hurry but I believe it includes both permeability (magnetic properties) and permittivity (capacitive properties) so I don't see that we should calculate with just resistivity.
If I am right we would have a constant energy in an EMR. It would be just like a spring or a pendulum altering between energy form but having constant energy. Currently we have pulsating energy as I see it.
I also don't quite agree with wave particle duality. I think we should leave the particle out. I believe the "Black body experiment" has more to do with the frequency that is radiated onto it and resonance frequencies of the electrons in the black body but that is a long story.
