QUILT AS YOU GO: QUILTING AND ATTACHING BORDERS WITH SASHING

Quilt As You Go: Quilting and Attaching Borders with Sashing. There are many different methods of quilt as you go. In this tutorial, I teach you how to quilt and attach your borders using sashing strips. This is the most common method of quilt as you go.

I like to use my machines decorative stitches when I use the quilt as you go method. I feel like it gives my quilts more character than when I do traditional quilting.

In this tutorial I cut my front strip 1" and my back strip at 2". I ironed the 2" strip in half. That is a common practice for using strips using the quilt as you go method and I honestly can't tell you why. My guess is that it gives more stability and strength to the quilt. I hope you enjoy this method of quilting.

Crafting made fun and easy! Join me as I teach you how to make beautiful crafts and quilts using different techniques.

I get a lot of questions regarding the sewing machine that I am using. The machine that I am using is a Janome 9400 QCP.

Great tutorial. I do my joining in reverse….I.e. 1” I back, 2” folded in the back. I sew squares, or quilt rows, back to back. I then fold the 2” on front. It gives me a narrow trim. No hand sewing. Lol. Thanks for taking time to demonstrate

Question. When attaching blocks with sashing, why is the top a different size than the bottom?

Do the 1” n 2” strips for QAYG method need to be bias or will straight of grain strips work fine?

Hello, I am a Totally New Beginner to Quilting 😁 & actually only made some scrap string blocks 😁 & just made My Very First Project using 6 HST blocks table runner 💕 by MSQC called the flickering starlight reversible table runner 😁 & recently looked in my local small fabric shop & online for me in the UK. & Batting here is Polyester 😦 I cannot seem to find cotton batting or cotton 80% polyester 20%. Which for most US tutorials that is used. But thank you got some great tips from you today 💜 Erica x

Great videos! I put the 1” strip on the BACK and folded 2” strip on the FRONT. It turns out the same as what you’re doing, so it doesn’t seem to matter. I have a problem when adding TWO borders, first narrow one (2-3 inches), then 6”. I pre-quilt the 6” but add batting to the narrow one as I add it. Is there a better way? I need the extra 4-6 inches (each side) to make quilt large enough for a queen sized bed!

What kind of baby lock machine do you have?

wouldn't it be easier to manage if you made the borders you want, attached them together, mostly bound them, and then attached to the quilt all at once? instead of struggling with the whole quilt over and over?
