Boat Docking Basics

Our dock is about a half mile from the ocean by a bridge with a real crazy current. I was told if you can dock it here, you can dock it anywhere. Not exactly what I wanted to hear.

Practice this stuff away from structure, get the feel of how she moves in wind, and current. And one last thing, even a brand new engine can "crap out", mine did when it picked up a plastic bag--a whistle alarm sounded and to protect itself from overheating (water cooled) it....shut down, and I'm thinking "what now Einstein" as I'm drifting into the rocks of the breakwall. What DO you do? Do you know where your anchor is--can you get to it NOW?
