“Xbox Claimed Some Market Share From PlayStation In 2022, Suggests Analysis Firm. Entertainment industry firm Ampere Analysis has posted a new report on the gaming market in 2022, and it makes for some pleasant reading for Xbox fans. The firm has updated its sales estimates for Xbox Series X|S consoles up to the end of 2022, while also claiming that Microsoft gained some market share from Sony last year.

So, here are the firm's sales estimates. Ampere claims that Microsoft sold 18.5 million Xbox Series X|S consoles from launch through 2022, while Sony hit 30 million PS5 sales in the same time frame. While there's a clear gap in hardware sales that favours Sony, the firm believes Microsoft gained market share on the PlayStation owner in 2022. These gains stand at roughly 1.3% across hardware, software and service sales.”

“Report: Microsoft may sell Xbox if Activision merger fails. Reports indicate that prominent games industry figures believe that Microsoft could sell off its Xbox games division if the Activision merger is blocked.Microsoft wants to buy Activision Blizzard King for $68.7 billion. Shareholders and a large portion of gamers want the deal to go through. Regulators like the FTC, CMA, and European Commission are heavily scrutinizing the deal as it is believed that Activision's 8x separate billion-dollar franchises, including mega-hits like the $31 billion Call of Duty franchise and mobile giant Candy Crush, could help shape the future for the games industry.”

No way in hell MS would sell Xbox. They would bury it first and to be honest MS is clearly setting up game services where you will be able to play their games on multiplatforms, and a dedicated console will not be needed. This should be no surprise to anyone.

I'm at a point where i set the majority of games to easy not because of skill but time, with so many games in my back catalog I can't try to perfect in one game anymore i just want fun and if I love the game maybe I will raise difficulty.

I hope they do. Forced crossplay with PC is a giant F U to the Xbox players.

The reason Xbox is lagging behind is they don’t release any games. You need games to move hardware sales, Microsoft has been lagging behind in the game department since the beginning of Xbox one gen. If the 360 is any proof of concept the more killer games you got people will buy the hardware to play those games. Phil IMO has stifled the Xbox hardware because he has delayed or cancelled some anticipated games the people were looking forward to. Under Phil no steady stream of good games has been released under his guidance. Its not like Microsoft doesn’t have the studios to crank out new amazing or tried and proven franchises. Where are the freaking 1st party games man!!! 2 years with most powerful console and theres not much to show that power for, meanwhile Nintendo and Somy keep cranking out games and more games hence they keep moving hardware. I don’t know if Phil has an inkling of how the gaming business side works. It doesn’t take rocket science to know why Xbox is lagging behind.

Xbox just need to keep pushing these Gamepass day one drops and make cloud gaming as good as possible, i honestly think it was a good year last year idk why everyone keeps saying it was bad, i play my xbox more than my ps5 because these gamepass drops have been giving me somthing new to play every month with having to put any thought into it. and gamepass being on my phone, tablet and laptop it has become a part of my whole tech ecosystem quick asf, playstation hasnt done anything like that for me, and thats where tech is headed right? its not about the item so much as how that item fits into the whole ecosystem.

Phil Spencer just said if the acquisition doesn't go through Xbox will continue doing what they've been and making games and building the brand

There's only a few companies that could even afford Xbox, and that would be Apple, Amazon, and Google.

The fact someone thinks xbox needs to catchup when xbox had shit first is depressing

It doesn’t make much sense for Microsoft to sell off Xbox since it’s there still earning money from it

I own both an Xbox and a PlayStation, and I personally believe the Xbox is a better system overall. The PlayStation is just good for exclusives honestly.

I wouldn't be surprised if Xbox goes the way of Sega; go into software only and not hardware. They seem to be focused more and more about services.

from a business standpoint, i dont think Microsoft needs to catch up to playstation. they have more capital all together and can survive the market, while sony had to close down business ventures on other products to solely pay attention to the playstation because it was the only sure thing that was making them more money than all of the other departments combined. microsoft doesnt just build windows and xbox's. it has hands on the medical field, culinary field, scientific fields & many others.

Xbox fans need to ask, if Microsoft has 69 BILLION DOLLARS they're willing to spend to get some video games, why the hell haven't they used some of that money to make decent games over the last several years? They killed the fps that made Xbox, Phil Specer ran a studio into the ground, they delay and cancel more games than they release, and they already have more money and developers than Sony. You CAN NOT blame Sony for Microsoft failures. They can't make a bunch of AAA exclusives to give them away on gamepass, they tried to buy talent because they don't possess any of their own but it doesn't work that way. If you enjoy COD, the last place you want it to go is to Microsoft, they'll fuck it up like they do everything

I want my series S to last forever even when I get the next Xbox digital version, because I don’t want to have to buy the disc version

Tbh if you’re buying a new Xbox every few years, you should just invest in a gaming PC. Then you can play most of Xbox’s lineup, and if you’re patient you can play the PS exclusives too. Plus PC versions of games usually get more content, and can be modded to extend replay-ability.
