Use for sliders, breakfast sandwiches, alongside salad, or with a bowl of creamy chicken soup.
Ingredients:
Warm whole milk - 1 1/2 cups
Sugar - 1 tbsp + 1/3 cup
Active dry yeast - 1 tbsp
Egg - 1
Melted unsalted butter - 4 tbsp
All-purpose flour - 4 cups
Salt - 1 1/4 tsp
Oil or butter to grease
Eggwash - 1 egg + milk 1 tbsp
Instructions:
1. To make the dough:
In a bowl or measuring cup take 1 1/2 cup of warm milk (about 110F)
Add 1tbsp of sugar and 1tbsp of active dry yeast.
Whisk together and let it sit for about 5 minutes until yeast looks foamy.
Add 4 tbsp of melted butter , one beaten egg, and 1/3 cup of granulated sugar.
In a mixing bowl take 4 cups of flour. Add 1 1/4 tsp of salt and mix well.
Pour the prepared mixture into the flour gradually and mix well with a spatula.
You can knead the dough with your hand or in a stand mixer.
I used a stand mixer. Knead the dough for about 15 minutes.
Only a well kneaded dough can produce soft and fluffy dinner rolls.
The dough should feel sticky and tacky but should not stick to clean / dry finger tips.
2. Proof the dough:
Place the dough in a greased bowl.
Cover it with a plastic wrap about 2 hours in a warm place or until doubled in size.
3. Divide and shape the dough:
Once dough rises, place it on a lightly floured surface and divide it into 3 portions.
Then roll each portions and cut into 4 piece each.
( Total 12 pieces , depending on the shape of your baking dish)
Roll each piece of dough into a ball and place them onto a greased casserole dish.
4. Proof the dough balls:
Cover the dinner roll with a towel and let them rise another 30- 60 minutes in a warm place or until puffed ( do not over - proof).
5. Brush the rolls with egg wash:
Once it is ready to keep in oven, brush the top of the rolls with an egg wash , so that the rolls will be shiny and golden brown in colour when they are baked.
6. Bake the rolls:
Place the baking tray in the lowest rack so that the tops won’t get browned too fast
Bake at 350 F for about 20 -25 minutes depends on your oven, or until the tops are golden brown. Once you take out of the oven, brush tops of dinner rolls with melted butter and set aside to cool to room temperature before serving. If the tops get browned too fast, tent the top with aluminum foil to prevent this.
