In this video, I explain how online competitive Carcassonne is played at the highest level. I analyse the only Carcassonne game to have ever occurred on Board Game Arena between two players rated above 800 ELO (for reference 700 ELO is the threshold for Master, the highest title in online Carcassonne). It was a friendly game played between myself and the 2023 Finnish national champion. I explain my moves and those of my opponent.

At 18:38 putting the curve facing downwards on the left -1/-1 from your city cap would’ve restricted their blocking options severely and would’ve given you at least 2 outs if they would’ve blocked from above with a curve/T or straight.

21:15 I would've considered defending with a farmer, but of course it's a high risk move as you can get stock with no meeples for a while.
