Watching you draw the rough under drawing is encouraging. You watch people like Kim Jung Gi draw perfectly from memory and it's a punch in the gut.

The putting my work out there, is something I'm learning to do now. I've always showed friends and family (although, I stopped showing family, because when I openly ask for criticism and critiques. They utterly refused to do anything but praise it.) However, I am learning to get over the anxiety of people I don't know seeing my art, to try and ask for thought, tips, tricks, and critiques.

Won’t know if you’ll be reading this. But i want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the free videos you made. Ever since i found your channel for the past two years, i really wanted to be one of the artist working on a game project. It was countless sleepless nights balancing finishing my masters degree and practicing my art skills. I just got hired last week as a junior concept artist and i would have never dreamed to even consider myself to have the skills to be hired in such a competitive field. Im from southeast asia and the current company is designing a game which has some of my culture being its main focus design point. Thank you for the videos and tutorial but most of all in life talks behind the industry. Ive come a long way thanks to these types of videos and being not as wealthy, it was really hard affording any form of professional art courses. I still have to use my crappy ipad for work and i hope you keep uploading these videos. Best regards

Hey Trent, thanks for all these great talks over the years. I've been doing the grinding game at my local community college for about 8 years now having fun exploring my interests. I have discovered past 4 years I am enjoying both art and computer science. So I have been having fun non stop learning how to be a GameDev. Defently going to be taking few of your courses to get better. :)

Editing is in perfect sync with Trent, as he says "to bridge that gap" while there is an image of a literal bridge spanning a literal gap up on screen (x2).
If that wasn't planned then I'll have to reconsider reality.

Love your content Trent. I bought the Easy Art Lessons 1 - 20 box set a little while back. I am on lesson 13 right now. These lessons are amazing. They have really helped me break through the initial barrier I was facing trying to improve my own drawing as a beginner. They are simple, straight forward, and they work.

Focusing on the initial sketch and under drawing first until you nail the composition, pose, and fundamentals is something I was missing. That so far has been my biggest takeaway.

Thanks again for the awesome content.

So this reminds me of a, for lack of a better term, student of mine who's dead set on ignoring fundamentals and doing his own thing because he wants to make his own style and doesn't want to "do it like everyone else" and yaddy yaddy yadda. I've repeatedly tried to tell him time and time again to brush up on fundamentals, learn the basics, and then bend those basics into what you want. I go back and brush up my fundamentals whenever I can because I wholeheartedly believe they're something you can _always_ improve upon in some form.

But through it I've found probably the best comparison when it comes to art; trying to make art without knowing at least the basics of the fundamentals, underdrawings/underpaintings, etc. is like trying to make your own macaroni recipe when you don't know how to boil pasta.

I mean.. I made ALL these mistakes when I was younger, I really wish there was a lot more information around for artists when I was a small fry. but like I was around when dial up internet was a thing, and I remember comparing myself ALOT to more experience artists and thinking “hey.. why can’t I draw like that?” I would ask them for help, and all I got was ‘practice!’ What I really wish they had said was ‘practice anatomy’ or ‘break down the human body into parts’ you know something helpful to younger me instead of ‘oh just practice’ I ended up giving up and coming back to art in my 30’s with now a lot more information about and my mind set is different, I know now what I have to practice, but I regret so much giving up when I was younger due to frustration and just not knowing what to do to get better at art.
