18 HANDS play ARRIVAL (DUNE 2) on 1 PIANO

Another Piece from Hans Zimmer's Soundtrack to Dune: Part Two. This one was very fun, figuring out all the nasty, deep rumbling sounds. I was able to reuse the technique of rubbing rosined wood on the bass strings to replicate the sound of the Octobass used in the original. That turned out great in my opinion, especially the lowest note played (which is the second lowest note on the piano, a B♭0) produces a wonderfully nasty, gurgling sound. It is also quite impressive to see how much the bass strings vibrate when played like that.

The beginning part actually sounds better in my opinion than the original. The low strings on a piano are so long, thick and under such high tension that they have an incredibly dark harmonic richness that guitars cannot match. No distortion or effects required. The bowing of those metal strings is a sound so ominous it shakes me to the core!
