They don't call it stealership for nothing.

Stealership wanted $720 to replace the antenna assembly on my Tacoma. I bought the parts and did it myself for $56.00.

Denso’s largest shareholder is Toyota…

That’s why I cherish and hold on to my mechanic. He’s upfront, tells you exactly what you need, when you need it with parts that are from the manufacturer and not from the brand. I’m very fortunate.

Denso makes the best quality auto parts I have ever put my hands on. Sensors, fuel pumps, spark plugs and much more are always top notch.

That “du ma” at the end caught me off guard 😂

Denso is an OEM manufacturer for Toyota. Half of the items under the hood of my ‘97 FJ-80 Series Land Cruiser are made by Denso. Bosch is the Denso-equivalent OEM manufacturer for Porsche, BMW and Mercedes.

Buying OEM parts is not the problem, the dealership price markup for them is 🤷‍♂️

Denso and Bosch also make parts for BMW, Porsche and Mercedes. If you own one of those, this 100% also applies. Do not buy from the factory.

Ehh not sure if this is the best advice, sometimes the dealer has really well priced things that are absolutely necessary (transmission fluids, crush washers). Also the dealer filters are cheaper than the auto parts store, results vary.

Just because it’s manufactured by Mobil 1 DOES NOT mean it’s normal Mobil 1 Oil. In viscosity the Toyota 0W20 VI is one of the very highest, 216, compared to Mobil 1's much lower 173. Toyota's 40C cST is 37.38 cST compared to Mobil's 40C 44.8cST. ( Lower is much better here ). Even though you pay a bit more for Toyota oil you are paying for the engineering that goes into it that makes it a better product than others.

The Toyota filters and spark plugs are cheaper at the dealership than the aftermarket ones at Autozone.

Denso Sparks plugs are cheaper at Toyota for my Camry, compared to Amazon or AutoZone/O'Reilly

Edit: I don't know about quality. I only buy my parts from Toyota, with the exception of air filter from amazon. The same denso FK20HR11 plugs came out cheaper for me at Toyota. Someone did mention a Toyota/denso relationship

VW will literally sell you the same part for a golf or for a lambo at greatly inflated prices, even though it all comes from the same Bosch factory line.

I was so glad to have worked in a mechanic shop for a couple years and have the technicians put me up on game.

Tell these auto parts stores to stop overcharging for everything. It’s still cheaper to get some things from the dealership for example oil filters.

Many times they are produced by another company BUT to the OEM’s specifications.

I worked at a bottling facility for oil once. The line was one weight and same vat of oil all day, but 3 times a day the bottles were changed, from discount brands to higher end brands.

Lol.
Years ago, 25+, I worked at the Mobil Oil B&P Plant in Beaumont TX. (Blending and Packaging). That is when I learned this exact thing. We would run MobilOil containers, then at some point, we would stop the line, put Chrysler, Ford, Honda, Toyota, and many others in the feed, and begin filling with the exact same oil we had been using.
From time to time we would produce JASO MA oils, stop the line, feed Yamaha etc containers, and continue on.
I haven't purchased anything Make labeled since.
