Couple Charged $143K for Phone Bill After Switzerland Trip

Renee and Linda Remund had a great time exploring Switzerland. However, they received the shock of their lives when their cellphone bill came. The jaw-dropping amount due was more than $143,000. The Florida couple are experienced travelers and before each trip, they say they notify their phone carrier. After he complained for months and even hired a lawyer, Rene says the phone company wiped the bill clean.

When I traveled to the Czech Republic last year, I used WhatsApp for all my international calls.

They did all the right things before the trip; i.e., went to T Mobile and told them about the trip and to check his plan. T Mobile reps told him he was covered, so he absolutely had a legitimate case against the company for that insane charge. This man was not a first time international traveler and knew what to do to be prepared.

I always check with AT&T— they charge $10 per day and won’t exceed $100 when traveling internationally

20 years ago I went to Brazil. Barely used my phone only a few text in 42 days. Got home and had $7000 phone bill. I disputed it and never paid it.

I went to Italy this past December and I left from the USA. Before I left I told my cell phone company and they gave me roaming while I was in Italy. My cell phone bill was around $190. I thought that was expensive but $143k? Thats insane

I always buy a local sim card when traveling, I never roam 😅

Sometimes roaming can be slow. I find it cheaper & faster cell service to just get a limited sim on whatever region I'm visiting

This is coming from the same company that a decade ago ran a commercial of paying someone else's $70, 000 AT&T roaming bill. God, I miss John Legere.
