McDonald's to 'rethink' prices after sales fall | BBC News

McDonald's has been hit by its first fall in global sales since the start of the pandemic in 2020 as consumers cut back on spending.

Outlets open for at least a year saw sales fall 1% over the April-June period compared with a year earlier.

The drop came despite the hamburger chain offering money off deals to try to win back cost-conscious customers and those who have boycotted the chain over the Israel-Gaza war.

Boss Chris Kempczinski said the poor results had forced the company into a "comprehensive rethink" of pricing.

McDonald's has inadvertently trained me to stop eating their garbage by charging rip off prices. I owe them a debt of gratitude.

No one wants to pay like 10 dollars for a paper thin burger. Crap quality at high prices are making everyone eat at better restaurants.

only way to stop the madness is to stop spending your money at these places

It isn't cost of living, its the fact that McDonald's are charging as much for their crap as you'd pay for a decient meal in a proper restaurants... good restaurants are booked out and people are getting better food for the same or a little more money.

price goes up, size of food shrinks. eventually the people understand the scam and go somewhere else

They're idiots. They alienated their primary customer base by pricing them out. Who else did they think was buying from them?

They are not "forced" to increase prices, they want to keep making as much money as possible, even if they are a billion dollar company, and that is called greed.

Good. We don’t need to pay high quality prices for low quality “food”.

3 to 4 bucks for a single hash brown is insane.

When eating fast food costs the same as an all-you-can-eat buffet, the choice is pretty clear.

The price and quality was barely justifiable 10 years ago, now it’s an easy pass.

So in Sydney Australia we bought 2 Fillet of Fish, 2 Cheese Burgers and two medium cokes. Cost us $36 Two days later I bought a Chinese meal of chili squid and fried rice in separate containers. And a bottle from the local shop. $22 for the squid, $11 for the rice and $3.50 for a 2lt coke. Much better deal because the food wasn't cold and we got what we ordered and it tasted much better.

They will make a lot of noise about "listening to people" then in a year when everyone forgets they will slowly raise them again.... JUST STOP BUYING FROM THEM. Dont get manipulated.

Problem is that their food got almost at the same price of good restaurant food.

Not only have their prices been absurd, the portion sizes are a joke.

Always a good idea to raise prices in a recession.

I don't get anything from McDonald's anymore. It use to be the quick cheap family meal for a family of four now is more than $60

It’s been years since I was in a McDonald’s. It’s not just the price, it’s the quality of the food.
