Why Luke's Force Projection Killed Him

Why did Luke Skywalker’s Force projection result in his death? Why was using the Force in that way so dangerous? Force projection, also known as doppleganger or similfuturus, first appeared in Star Wars Legends, and was expanded upon by Force users called the Fallanassi. They were known for first achieving Force projection, which required the user to pour their life essence into the Cosmic Force. Which is the aspect of the Force which makes Force *ghosts* possible. In a sense, creating a Force projection was very *similar* to the way a Jedi who had become one with the Force would be able to create a physical manifestation of their consciousness. Creating a projection would not result in death for *any* use, but the further the distance, the more realistic the doppleganger, and the longer it was projected all factored into the difficulty of the technique, and therefore how much of a being’s life essence would be given up to the Cosmic Force itself.

I think the fact Luke had cut himself off from the force and then suddenly used it in such an extreme way was probably also damaging to him

Personally, I think that part of the ending should have been rewritten to have Luke survive after the unfortunate passing of Carrie Fisher between the end of filming and the release.

Not sure why Jake died, but Luke once projected himself to Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus to mess with him and show him he had no chance, and he didn't even break a sweat.
Im guessing that's exactly where they got the idea from for the movie, minus the dying from it part.
