This intro is perfect. It not only tells the audience this is a sports movie, it tells them up front it is aiming for fun rather than anything approaching historical accuracy and really sets the tone.
Not to mention, there's just something awesome amd wholesome about watching a crowd get into good music. Particularly when said music is freaking "We Will Rock You"; I don't care what anyone says, to me this is Queen's best song.
