CLIP DESCRIPTION:
William (Heath Ledger) learns that his father John Thatcher (Christopher Cazenove) is still alive.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Heath Ledger stars as William Thatcher, a low-born 14th century squire who, in a fit of inspired spontaneity, replaces his deceased employer as the competitor at a jousting competition. Jousting is a pastime only permitted to knights, who are of noble birth, but Thatcher wins and decides to continue his new pursuits. With the help of his two fellow squire friends Wat and Roland (Alan Tudyk and Mark Addy) and none other than the gambling-addicted Geoffrey Chaucer (Paul Bettany), Thatcher has soon adopted a false identity and is winning one joust after another on his way to a championship in London. His victories inspire the affection of a female fan, Jocelyn (Shannyn Sossamon), and the ire of a competitor, Count Adehmar (Rufus Sewell), but Thatcher's ruse is threatened with exposure.

I love his reaction to the promise of news of his son. His hands dropping the net. His blind eyes lighting up. His voice. Man. Gets me every time.

That's the type of father I want to become. Someone who encourages his kids to follow their dreams and help them reach their goals.

Both of these fine actors passed away much too soon.

In mere seconds, this man went from looking like a pitiful bum to someone worthy of envy. The actor did a marvelous job of expressing the love, pride, and relief of father through facial expressions alone. Comes off as very genuine and feels real.

1:25 "He changed his stars after all." - Always cry on that line ! What an amazing movie ! Fathers and sons should watch it together !

*There are scenes that are well done. There are scenes that are memorable and great. Then, once in a while, there are scenes that are perfect. This is one.*

When my son graduated high school and struggling to find his path in life, I gave him a book, with the line a man can change his stars written inside.
He will soon complete his masters, something many times he didn’t think he could do... that one line from a fun movie we enjoyed so many times together has helped change his life.

I love how Will doesn't even have to tell his father that he's his son. He knows. Just by being near him, he knows and I am an emotional wreck!

Not many things make me teary eyed. This does.

What I found really touching is towards the end when Will's father is trying to touch him and it dawns on Will fully that hes completely blind. The look on Will's face is of guilt, as if he wishes he had been there for his father. His father of course, being who he is was so happy for Will to find what he was looking for.

That look gets me every time.

The fact that even though he's blind and hasn't seen his son since he was a kid, and yet STILL recognizes him. That's golden.

Every once in a while I look up this video to test myself again, maybe like once a month. Just to see if I'll cry again. And I do. God damn man.

I am... a full grown man, with two sons, that I adopted. I always wanted the best for them both. I remember watching this movie when it was first in theatres.
This scene, even before I had my boys, made me cry like a baby.
I cannot imagine the trust and faith this father had, to send his only child out into the medieval world to chance, ... CHANCE, ... his becoming more than a poor peasant.

The way he drops everything when "Ulrich" tells him he has word of his son...
