I know the Lord doesn't need my money, yet I acknowledge him as a source of all my income. He gave me physical body and ability to go to work. I gladly pay my tithing and feel it is a privilege, not a burden. Whatever the church decides to do with that money, it's up to them. As far as I am concerned, I pay my tithing to God.
In the Bible God says "Prove me now if I will not open the windows of heaven". Many years ago I decided to test him and today my tithing equals my entire income just 10 years ago. So yes, I pay tithing, and will do it because the Lord is great

Giving joyfully is the key. I tithed unemployment and didn’t run out of money for a year (and i sure should have!) even though unemployment only lasted 4 months. God provided money at just the right times, over and over. You can’t out give God!

*If you really can’t afford it consider giving your TIME!*

People might get offended by this but most religions are just businesses. You can be generous and do good without giving money away.

we just had a local pastor tell us not to pay the doctor bills for cancer, instead to pay our tithe. we got smart and walked out never to go back.

I tithe based upon Malachi 3. I know there are abuses but I also know that God is able to supply all of my needs according to His riches and glory. Tithing, for me, is not obligation but a joyful decision. If you ever feel manipulated to tithe, don't do it. Let God speak to you about it because He loves a cheerful giver.

I just love you Dave! I'm not Christian and neither a religious person; your teachings just makes sense, regardless what faith you have. I am grateful we get to have you in this crazy world where there is so much to learn...

What I’ve noticed is when I tithe I still have money left over after paying everything for the month. And when I’m selfish and don’t tithe thinking I’m saving money I end up with a negative balance.

Give from your heart with joy. God doesn't want you to give 10% and be bitter about it. Give something

I graduated law school in 2017 with a lot of student debt. Under my student loan income-based repayment plan, I pay 10% of my discretionary income in monthly student loan payments. If I tithed 10% of my monthly income, I would be essentially be making another student loan payment every month.

Tithing is Old Testament... Right along with sacrificing animals, stoning your children for disobedience and owning slaves. Why follow some of it and not all?

I’m non denominational Christian, I tithe, and I’ve seen God bless me as a result. I’ve lived from $500 in a month before, staying in a motel, and still tithed. He will reward you. He will restore you :)

You can also give of your time and or your talents to be a giver when tithing is not an option at that time.

It would bother me if I didn't tithe. It's a personal choice. 😃 I've noticed that tithing has improved my budgeting and strangely my debt is being paid down faster.

Make sure you research the church and learn how the administration of it operates. Too many people give just for giving sake.
Also is the church involved in its members lives when problems arise? Or you have to make appointments with pastoral staff only? Social Justice issues? Community causes? It makes a difference. I'm not giving for a jet, when Jon and Sarah cant make rent.

Tithing is an Old Testament standard. The only standard in the New Testament is to give from a generous heart, the motivation is love, not compulsion.

Thanks Dave for your thoughts on tithing. Though our family is not at a 10% goal for tithing yet, we found that tithing has helped us budget better and pay off debts faster. There are times when it feels really tight, but I trust in our Heavenly Father and we'll try to give more to support those in need.

Honestly, I think you should ask yourself if you should tithe and no one else. That is a personal, spiritual question honestly.

I tithe and have been blessed with far greater than the meager 10% of my income. I don't think I could afford not to tithe.
