In this video I show you, step-by-step How to Sew French Seam. If you are a home sewer this seam is a must to know how to do.
A French Seam is when the raw edges are fully enclosed within itself for a clean, neat and professional finish. I love using a french seam on all of my own creations and I know you will love using a french seam too, once you find our how easy it really is.

The reason you would use a French Seam is...
- If you're using delicate fabrics (eg. silk, georgette or chiffon)
- If you don't own an overlocker to finish the edge of your fabric
- If you want a premium finish for your garment
- If you are a home sewer

The steps to sew a French Seam
1. Prepare your fabric, Pin WRONG SIDES together
2. Sew a straight stitch machine foot width from the edge of the fabric. Make sure to back tack at the start and at the end to stabilise the stitch. Remove the pins as you sew.
3. Iron the seam flat and cut the edge of the fabric back if needed.
4. Pin RIGHT SIDES together encasing the first seam inside. Use your thumb and pointer finger to roll back the seam and pin. This helps when your sewing so seam doesn't buckle or ripple.
5. Use a straight stitch making sure the width encases the seam inside. Back tack at the start and at the finish to stabilise the stitch.
6. YOU ARE FINISHED - Iron flat for a premium finish.

I was wondering if I need to add more seam allowance to the pattern pieces if I opt for a french seam?
