Hand Sewing Tutorial (RIGHT HANDED): Backstitching

Показать описание

Backstitching is the strongest hand sewn stitch you can do. People often are concerned about the strength of hand sewing and honestly regardless of what stitch you use it is much stronger than you think. However, for seams that have stress on them like arm holes, shoulder seams and some body seams a backstitch is an ideal choice. Great hand sewing practice for historical hand sewing and better modern hand sewing technique! Practice along with me to remember what your hands can do!

This is the stitch used before the creation of the sewing machine when clothes were made by hand. It’s a very strong stitch and looks beautiful when done.

People that say it annoying to hand stitch are crazy, it’s relaxing and addictive. You teach it so well, great video.

Nothing more satisfying than a tutorial video that goes straight to the point without long-winded, boring introductions that make you lose interest in the video from the very beginning before you even get to learn something. GREAT JOB!! This is a great video!

I have two engineering degrees. This has always been an obscure wizardry to me that only a few chosen ones could understand. Thanks for the video!!!

Remember that in school, we didn't have sewing machines, so, we were all taught the backstitch. We hand stitched blouses, skirts, aprons. Every line of stitching was inspected, must be straight and even, else undo every stitch to redo..
I enjoyed every needle work class...it was like foundation of my sewing background

No wonder cloths were expensive before sewing machines were invented. Imagine doing a whole outfit this way.

As a leftie I'm appreciative of the (RIGHT HANDED) label. When I was first learning I would always hold my fabric the same orientation as everyone else and could not for the life of me figure out why I was struggling so much. Once it hit me that I just had to turn it around I felt so silly. Story of my life though: learning to tie my shoes was a journey.

Oh, wow. _Technically, _ I already knew how to backstitch, but keeping my stitch line even and straight has often eluded me. The tip about the tail being halfway between where the needle goes in and comes out just absolutely _blew my mind_ for how much simpler it was than I had expected. I haven't actually tried it out myself yet, but a big preemptive thank you!

What a beautiful and functional stitch. And thankyou for immediately starting your tutorial without the usual annoying 5 minute rambling that we have to endure with so many other videos. Great job!

I stopped the video at 34 seconds. I learned like 3 things. Nothing more annoying than a ten minute introduction saying nothing like most videos. Of course I saw the whole thing. Nice job!

I love your comment ‘as alway remember to sit up straight etc etc’. A lot of crafter get in the moment and forget to sit up straight etc. It was a great reminder and your voice is so calming and gentle 😊

Bring backs all memories when I was in elementary and high school. We have this kind of subject, we made apron, shorts and bags all in hand Sewing!

The tip about the tail bisecting the distance is just gold, loving your videos they are so clear and well-narrated.

How does YouTube know that I know how to sew? I never watch or search for anything related to sewing. But I did watch and find the information useful.😊😊😊

I'm hand stitching my blocks by hand for a baby's blanket. Hand Stitching Quilts is a lost art and I want to do it 100% by hand to include the Quilting detail once the blanket pieces are put together. Thank you for this tutorial. I think this stitch will make my blanket squares stronger!

So I'm a newbie when it comes to sewing, and I'm also about to be a new grandma and I wanted to make my newborn grandson his own baby blanket until I realized I don't know how to sew.... 😅 So I watched MANY sewing " how to's ", and they were just not helping. Then I found this video and found it to be very easy to follow ... so I'm about to start my baby blanket, and we'll see how it turns out. I'll post pics when done. Thanks for your video 😊
