My Very Canadian self uses cooking chopsticks at home, in Canada. They are so useful!

In Canada it’s dangerous to wear coat indoors during winter bc you overheat and sweat and then when you go into the cold you freeze.

I am Chinese and I have very little spice tolerance. I don't know why, though, since my mom is from Jiangxi and my dad is from Sichuan, two provinces known for extremely high spice tolerance.

I adore cooking chopsticks. They're so much easier to clean and are useful for so many things

I’m with the Chinese on the coat thing. I too hate being cold and have no shame about wearing not just jackets, but actual coats indoors. I’m more cold natured than everyone else around me, so it just makes sense for me to add layers instead of turning the heat up. If I set the temperature to my comfort level, others would complain about it being hot and stuffy. I wear long sleeves year round for similar reasons. It gets really hot where I live and people love to crank the air up high and I end up being uncomfortably cold in the midst of July.

The pipeline from white girl spice tolerance to 辣椒油 cravings is SO REAL!!😂

My family’s from Fujian, a province known for having low spice tolerance/little spice in their food. Definitely one of the lowest spice tolerance province. According to my knowledge I’d say the Southeastern coast of China is where the spice level plummets😂; other regions either moderate or badass with spice. Generally speaking the further you go west the spicier your food gets, that applies to China as a whole and even within Fujian province as I later found out😅. Like apparently Western Fujian is known for having a little spice in their cuisine, while my family’s from the Eastern part.

Talking to older generations, eating stuff that grandma cooks, and having ate together with cousins born and raised in China (I only remember like 2 having a clear preference for spicy food) tells me that spicy preference is on a rise and eating spicy food among other things is definitely developing as a trend across China in the recent decades. Yes, plenty of Chinese food’s spicy and plenty of regional cuisine has been spicy for a long time, but something tells me that lots of young people are pushing the national average spice tolerance even further; me on the other hand, I have no trouble admitting I’m a weakling, I stand by grandma’s cooking! Well, I do try lots of Asian cuisine but always struggle with spiciness—I rarely challenge myself unless it’s a new dish or something I know’s a good mix of spices and flavors. Outside of my family, by judging from friends and acquaintances from other regions I feel as if it’s gradually becoming a more essential part to their identity as in young people from regions whose most traditional cuisine are low spice also partake in the promotion of spice tolerance or attempt to level up their spiciness; of course, a good amount of young people don’t know a whole lot about their most traditional regional cuisine.

Love your videos. ❤❤❤❤. I'm going to China in October for work event and I'm nervous about the weather. So this particular video really help me to decide regarding the coat I should bring, specially I'm not used to cold weather

That spice tolerance is a real thing! I used to think shin ramyun was the spiciest thing I ever ate. Then I started dating a Korean and that became the staple, with kimchi and all kinds of spicy and/or fermented foods. It took me a while to get there, but now I can eat hot chilis in my soup and exactly like you said, you start to crave the spice. People just have to build up that tolerance and they too can eat spicy af food with no issues. (TMI your booty hole also can build a spice tolerance, and I know that sounds crazy but it’s true. One day you won’t be shitting hot lava 😂)

I didn't know it was customary not to wear your coat indoors in other countries. It doesn't snow in South Africa (except last week because of climate change) so we don't really have any conventions around winter clothing.

Love my cooking chopsticks! My college boyfriend’s mom gave them to me as a gift and I still have them over a decade later ❤️

I get a bit of judgement from my American relatives but I am from the Caribbean and spice everything up for my toddler. No child of mine will be unable to tolerate spice! He one year and a half year old and beats my husband with his spice tolerance.

As a German, I can really suggest Dongbei cuisine to get started. Not too spicy, the taste resembles that of European cuisine (in some parts).

Haha I remember getting my Chinese fiancé cooking chopsticks when we first met bc I thought they were like silly comically big ones “gag gift” and he was SO excited 🤣 he said oh I needed cooking ones thanks babe now I won’t burn myself so much. I was like OOOH that’s why they’re so long 😭 he still teases me like 8 years later haha

this isn't weird anywhere. Like heaters cost a shit ton of money to run and they dry out the air in your house and make it miserable so you can just wear a jacket and let the temperature fall a little bit more than it normally would be

I gave myself gastritis from how how much I grew to love the spice in South Korea. You start producing that enzyme after a while that makes it not hurt as bad and you start craving it and you can eat ANYTHING and it's so dangerous for me lmao
