The power I felt when I ordered contact lenses on Meituan and got it delivered in 20 minutes. Felt even more powerful when I got an RX and meds in 20 minutes on Meituan too hahahaha. I’m currently traveling in China and have learned soooo much.

I am not from China but I totally get the last part as an Asian person.
If you ask a guest if they want something to eat or drink, they will always deny it out of politeness here. So we have to at least prepare tea or coffee in advance for the guests.

This reminded me of a snobbish US optometrist who thought my home country (in Southeast Asia) was backwards for not needing an expensive prescription to purchase lenses! In my country, all you need is to get your eyesight checked FOR FREE, and the eyewear store will get you the right contact lenses. You can always reorder them yourself. I'm glad you're enjoying the perks of living in China

As a Canadian very I’m jealous of your inexpensive McDonald’s meal. A McDonald’s meal in Canada can total to $18 as one of the more expensive combos. Don’t even get me started on prices of groceries or housing…smh…🤦🏻‍♀️

I remember visiting a lovely, high-end shopping center in Kazakhstan and seeing a vending machine that sold contact lenses.

I'm Swedish, and we just fill in our info when ordering contacts - it was a bit of a hassle when I needed a refill when I visited the US, I ended up giving the store the contact info to my optometrist. No idea if they actually called, but they did at least let me buy the contacts so 🤷 they were a fair bit cheaper in the US, so I wanted to stock up 😅

In Germany you get contacts everywhere. Even drugstores have their own brand most of the time. I get monthly ones for 7€ a piece.

Yesterday I had to schedule an optometrist session because they wouldn't sell me contacts since my prescription was expired. I understand but it was expired by a month! And my prescription hasn't changed in years! Now I have to pay extra just to get that prescription and on top of that pay for contacts, it feels so unfair.

The Chinese government controls the prices and value of currency very closely. That is why the price hasn't gone up.

Contacts are still like that in the states. It drives me crazy when people from Europe come into our shop urgently needing them and I have to tell them nowhere in America has them over the counter and they need a Rx. I want to the eye health stats though because based on some of my customers I dont think they could pick their own contacts out correctly.

In Canada you can order contacts from Clearly. You just select your prescription and order and it ships to your house. Same brands as eye clinics here, but Way cheaper and don’t have to pay for prescription

visual and dental service is really affordable in China. Any one who has future plan to travel to China, recommend you to get those services, You can just walk in any clinic and get service in the same day.
