People that drive these cars are usually well off and get news cars before the first oil change. My friend sells Acura’s and has a customer that has traded in 40 cars. IN 5 YEARS.

They obviously didn’t do any research on those statistics or cost of ownership. BMW’s new car warranty and included maintenance program covers costs in the first few years. Plus BMW and MB have aggressive upgrade programs aimed at helping customers get into another new model as soon as a year after their last upgrade. So most are not ditching the model, they are just getting a newer version. The others probably still love the car but need to down grade due to recent unexpected changes with their finances. You need to look at replacement stats like how 25% of BMW, MB, and Audi drivers that trade for a Tesla end up going back to their German luxury performance brand with in the first 2 years. Knowledge is power, and this is just propaganda with an agenda.

had multiple Mercedes C-Classes, absolutely love those cars... Sure, if you're looking for cheap mobility you should stay away from that brand, everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) comes at a premium there, but for me, it's just worth it^^ I know that this doesn't make sense from a purely rational point of view, but I guess I'm just a car guy and after all, it's my personal choice where I want to burn my money^^

Lucked out in 2004 when I bought a brandy new S2000, and being 6'2", 230 lbs with chronic knees and back within two hours I was in agony. The lucky parts comes when the dealer (who I had previous dealings with, Honda of Auburn, WA) took the car back (I put 150 miles on it) and basically they had it sold before the ink dried on my signing off partially because it had not been logged in as a sale yet. Great car, wrong body type (mine, not the car)

As a Mercedes-Benz employee, the C class is very popular and I’ve never heard of any such issue, especially when purchased new Or certified pre owned from a dealer. Buying from 3rd party lots, okay, understandable, you may have some issues, even then, those are issues that really any used car would have. But C classes use a simple 2.0l 4cyl turbo engine, that doesn’t require much maintenance. Yes they use higher quality parts, so repairs out of pocket will cost more than a Chevy Malibu, but a smart person, would buy a luxury car, under some type of warranty. Don’t buy the car if you can’t afford to maintain it. Don’t buy a luxury car from a non-luxury dealership. If you want luxury, you have to buy from luxury.

Nah, never had buyers remourse. I made up my mind about Benz and BMW way back in 05 when I was a valet. Later in 09, I was an auto detailer for a paint shop and the experience only reaffirmed my predisposition. While BMW and Mercades were some of the early adopters of adjustble suspension, they also came with far too many electronic modules just waiting for thermal fatigue to set in and destroy them. All costing anywhere from $600 - $1000ea. One guy told me it cost him $2000 to replace a timing belt on his 340i. I was like "no thanks" I'll stick with $600.
For BMW at least, while the cars were assembled in Germany, the electronics were still sourced from China and Tiwan. Think Alibaba meets car manufacturer. Big engineering bugets and luxury equipment meant that BMW had to tweak the numbers somewhere to make a buck. Where did all that cost savings come from? Quality materials. This has been a long standing business practice for BMW in particular since at least 2000, or the early 2000s. A BMW warranty is about the only part worthy of ownership. However, after that time is up, just drive these things to the scrap yard and walk away. A plastic oil drain plug? Really? Junk. You're just buying clout and a name, like Nike. While those will last you a year at best, I've been walking on the same pair of Sketchers since 2018. Thats right, same pair of shoes for 5yrs. Same difference between Toyota and BMW.
Clearly there is a level of craftsmanship difference here, but even the 7 series still suffers from the same problems, just at a later time.
For me, none of these vehicles are worth owning. I would stick to renting and leasing options.
Overall, I see BMW, Mercades, and Land Rover all drifting far from their heritage. Land Rover went from being an offroad champion to being a rolling garbage pile. BMW went from being the ultimate driving machine to being a glorified computer on wheels. Mercades... I can't really say much on. Aside from their over priced cargo vans, I haven't been following them much over the years. However, I have heard enough stories to know they're keeping pace with the other "luxury" brands. The one Luxury they (at least two brands) don't offer is getting from point A to B reliably for longer than 100k mi. They all might as well rebrand themselves with the name Edsel. It's all really depressing when you think about it. Makes me want to buy a 1995 BMW M5 just to know what the pinnical of that experience was all about.

I'm curious how or why a single Maserati didn't end up on this list, not to mention any Dodge. I thought the charger/challenger owners were all about the clout. Maybe their turnaround is more like 1.5yrs.

Anyway, great vid as always. This one needed to be said, despite being hard to stomach for some. Next like it should be something like "EVs to avoid." I'm personally curious about the Honda E.
I also think it would be a service to the community to include car brands/models from other countries like India, Russia, France, and Japan. At least in these list videos. Brands like UAZ, Lada, Renault, Citroen, and Tata. Mixed with models like the Toyota Century, Citroen DS3, the TaTa Nano, Tamo Racemo, the Renault Sport Spider, Clio V6, Megane, and the Lada Vesta. For a stupid crazy concept car video, you could include cars like the Citroen GT, and Lada Raven.
For offroading content, include the famed UAZ Hunter and 469. Both are very ideal. We could even go back in time and talk about classics like the SuperBee, the original Beetle, the MG Midget, the AMC Eagle, Rambler, DMC Delorian, and the original Dodge Dart. I could go on, but I think you get the idea.

I thought I remember Trav doing a video of Buick's colossal influence in China, but maybe that was another channel I'm remembering.

Cheers mates, its been fun.

I don’t think cost of ownership is a factor for any of these stats except the Versa. Getting rid of a luxury car in its first year is a terrible financial decision. It’s gotta be the inconvenience of having it in the shop all the time that makes rich drivers abandon them.

Brad I enjoy your content. Why have you never examined the 2011 through the 2022 Jaguar xj supercharged. I have one and nothing but problems for the past 6 years. I took my car to the shop last year because of an repeated oil leak. There were 17 jaguar xj newer that mine all having the same problems. They suck and anyone think of buying one should be aware of how much these cars suck ass

If the "Mini Clubman" designers included lights at the interior edge of the "Barn Door Hatch, " it "could have" been more resourceful.
If only "MINI" could have sourced a reliable AWD set-up...

I feel like the Versa is pretty good if you (this applies to a lot of Nissan Vehicles) get the manual version. I will say that working on it makes you question some design choices but with some elbow grease and patience, it works out. Things pushing over 180k and the most annoying job done on it is spark plugs due to poor design choices.
