" I bought this small underpowered car to save on gas"

" I hate this car because it's underpowered and small! They cheated me I'll never buy again!"

It's hilarious that many complaints are things that buyers would be able to know before even buying the car.

I can understand that reliability issues only surface later and the buyers won’t know until down the road but other things like driving characteristics, performance and space should have been considered when testing and buying a new car. I can’t buy a studio unit move my 5 person family in then complain it’s crammed.

The first thing to consider when reading owner reviews is that people are stupid. They buy a 1.5L micro crossover with a constant velocity trans and then complain about no acceleration. I love the ones who complain about the styling. Well, it looked good enough for you to buy it, right? What changed since then? If you KNOW what you are buying, you probably will not be dissapointed.

In 1970 my friend was hired by GM to engineer a material for their seats that would wear out in 5 to 10 years. They hired others to do the same with other vehicle parts. Today, unfortunately, planned obsolescence is a major part of vehicle designing for most auto-makers. Substituting plastic for metal is just one example.

Best car I've ever owned: 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara with manual transmission. I owned it for just over 10 years and when I went to buy a new one I was told Suzukis were no longer being sold in the US. I lived in Alaska the whole time I owned that car and it never failed me. Got me through massive blizzards and drove the sandy beaches at the mouth of the Kenai river, never getting stuck while "reliable" cars like Subarus and Jeeps were belly down in the sand. Please come back, Suzuki. I'll buy one the second you return (as long as manual transmission is still an option).

Having had a car I ended up being unsatisfied with I can say not everything is revealed in a test drive. Such as miserably uncomfortable driving seat on a long trip, visibility issues that seemed fine on the test drive but in real driving become an issue, road noise, you just can't tell everything from a test drive. As far as reliability goes I always look up lots of reviews and owner forums, I don't think everybody does or some of those cars wouldn't be selling well.

I love my 2018 Toyota Corolla XLE. Purchased it in the summer of 2018 in Anchorage, AK. Drove it 15, 000 miles per year in Alaska and in 2022 drove it to Texas. No problems ever - but I do keep up with scheduled maintenance schedule.

Most people looking for a small SUV or a cross over would probably be happier with a well designed/built hatchback.

When they say they don't like the design or interior, it makes one wonder why they bought it in the first place. I only buy a car after test driving and really having a good look at it to make sure I like it outside and in. I also do a bit of research first by asking owners what hey think of the car now that they have bought one regrading reliability etc.

Worst car was my daughter's 2018 Ford Escape. At 5k miles the engine was replaced under warranty. At 80k miles the transmission went out and the dealer wanted 9k to replace. The saving grace was it was totaled during the car shortage and she was able to buy a RAV4.

I have a Trax, #3 on this list. It is not that bad and I got mine cheap!!!! I've driven it for 3 years and for the price I am pleased! Great job with this review! :)

Key to reliability is regular service and maintenance. Many skip these basics and expect cars to run smoothly forever.

Most of these complaints are a result of not paying attention during the test drive

My first car was a 1974 Caprice fully loaded. The only thing it couldn't pass was a gas station. I miss that car.

Eye opening report, sad to learn that so many new cars are so poorly built and have drive train issues. Thank You
