Conversion copywriting is the practice of writing sales copy with a focus on conversion rate optimization. The writer will look at many different details that are often missed to increase conversions, response, and engagement.

The first thing you need to do is reference a buyer persona. Don't write in the dark. Know exactly who you're writing for. Their demographics ... feelings ... beliefs ... desires. This will help you craft the highest converting sales copy as it's engineered for a hypersegment.

Secondly, give every page you write one purpose. Is it to generate leads? Drive downloads for a lead magnet? Generate sales? Offering too many things creates the paradox of choice--confusion that results in taking no action. I also recommend limiting the footer and navigation to prevent distracting readers.

Then, match ads to landing pages. If you've ever clicked an ad and it took you somewhere much different, you know what I'm talking about. Ensure the design, branding, sales copy, and offer is consistent for maximum conversions.

It's also really important to connect with customer's emotions. What are they feeling? What are they struggling with? Targeting these things in sales copy will capture their attention and promote action.

Lastly, consider the temperature of the traffic you or a client is driving. Is it cold? Then they need top of the funnel content to become educated first. Have they opted into a newsletter or downloaded a lead magnet? Send them entry level or tripwire products. Customers who've converted can be sent more expensive offers and directly sold to.
