This is misguided info. For those who dont understand reits: DONT BUY THE HYPE
REITS are required to pay out 90% of earnings to shareholders. The managers cant "pay themselves" from our earnings. Its paid by the 10%, which requires them to work hard to perform. There are many reits that have performed very well over decades.

I own 2 businesses related to warehousing industry(moving, packing supplies). I also own flex unit spaces across Florida.
That doesn’t disable me from having a brokerage account, where I can keep some money. I have long term positions in PLD, PSA, NSA, EXR. These are warehouse and public storage reits. You won’t go wrong with them. They will be bringing dividends and stable growth. Diversification is the key. I don’t really agree that you have to stay away from reits. In my opinion it is one of the good ways to hedge your money, with low maintenance and low headache.

a REIT is basically just one giant cash-backed low-interest line-of-credit for the fund manager, where the fund manager has more contractual control of your money than you do.
