Dear Men
Welcome to single hood! I am glad you are on a quest to find love or a meaningful relationship that is going to change your life. However, stop being so hard on yourself.

You are ruining your chances of finding something amazing and exciting for yourself. You only need to stay positive and keep your past experience at the back seat when you’ve decided to look forward.

When you’re in your 40s, you know what you like and what you don’t like. And it can be harder than it was when you were younger to adapt and welcome a new relationship into your life, with all of the inherent compromise that comes with it.

At this stage of life, you can be especially critical of potential mates, which can result from your own past experiences. If you are divorced or are coming from a relationship that lasted many years only to fail, you tend to be more cautious about who you date. At times, this caution can turn into being overly critical or extremely picky of people you are dating, finding flaws that are not necessarily detrimental to a relationship.

Being overly critical or picky can hurt the chances of meeting a great person to form a serious relationship with.

Stop stressing over finding someone, first focus on what you bring to the table for the other person.

I just turned 40 still single met someone right around my 40th birthday I was in a great place mentally and physically in great health after 2 months I began to fall for her just in time for her to become flaky and ghost me. I was hurt pretty bad she had her reasons but I remained indifferent. Trying to brush it off and move on but I feel like I took 30 steps backwards dating her because I didn't expect her to hurt me

As a man turning 40 soon that is single I’d like to say the jaded comment is pretty accurate. Often phrased as “the juice isn’t worth the squeeze”. I have an amazing 30 foot boat that I love, a wonderful dog, and a pretty great life. Why would I want someone to come in and make my life worse?

I'm 43 and have never been in a relationship. I don't know how relationships work, how people get into them, meet each other, create chemistry, etc. It's all a big mystery to me and I doubt I'll figure it out at my age. It seems most 20 year olds have more experience and insight into dating and relationships than I do.

Advice from a professional therapist is about as good as snake oil. You claim that the issue is with men's past, but not all men have past relationships. Not all of us have this 'baggage' you say we bring to the table. Dunning-Kruger syndrome is going to kill us all.
