Top 6 Things I Wish I had Learned in Massage School

A lot of us don’t realize the sacrifices, time, discipline, commitment and effort that it will take to make it through massage school. It is overwhelming for some when you have to learn so many different things from A&P, kinesiology, techniques, modalities, hydrotherapy, pathology, business and how to develop your own unique style. Everyone is different and will have a different approach! I wish I had thought about what field or direction I was going to consider while I was still in school. It would have helped me to prepare better. I will ask you if you’re a student; where do you see yourself in a year? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? This will help you develop a short & long term plan for your massage therapy career. Much success to all of you!

I'm so happy to find this Channel, this nice person is very experienced and she speaks very slow and proper. I'm 15 years experience but in another country, now I'm here in US studying to get my license and I'll use all the information from this beautiful person. Thank you!!

Same like one of the comment here from Daniel, even I m not a massagist . I am a ashtang yoga practitioner and in my initial practice days, I had lot of issues near shoulder blades and the related muscle problems, and always wanted to know if some expert can help me out thru massage to regain the lost yoga practice time. And started seeing all massage videos, came acros one of Maria ma'ams, and hv hooked on to her videos. Unfortunately, even if I tell and show them to my local massagist, I m not getting the desired results, and always want to learn it...some day may be😀.

Thanks ma'am that's the wonderful subject, and so happy u shared all ur experiences in ur initial practice time very honestly...lot of luv from India.

Love your content so much! I just recently passed my MBLEX with the help of some of your videos, so thank you. Also, could you possibly do a video on entry level therapy? What would be the best setting to start in? (spas, fitness centers, etc.) OR Working for a company vs. being self employed.

So glad to have found this channel as I wait to go to massage school again. I went in the 90s and was not confident enough to pursue a career. At 50, I’m gonna give it another go once Covid subsides. Gonna buy the Trail Guide this weekend and be ahead of the game! 🤗

Teaching the ability to educate your clients. DEEP TISSUE from the prospective of a client is NOT what Deep Tissue is. Deep tissue is targeted work where you work through the fascial layers to get "DEEPER" into the muscle. It DOES NOT have anything to do with pressure. ALL anyone should need is a FIRM steady pressure. If they have a verbal or neurological response BACK OFF no matter HOW MUCH they tell you it feels good. It is counterproductive and counterintuitive to the work that needs to be accomplished.
TOTALLY AGREE ABOUT THE BOUNDARIES. If I have a client that gives me vicarious trauma I don't do them anymore. Mental (Mostly) or physical. Love YOUR VIDEOS I tell all the newbies about them. 👍

I love your videos. I can't tell you how helpful they are :)
I am a shiatsu practitioner that is incorporating swedish massage, craniosacral therapy and central channel therapy into her work and I am painfully aware and excited about how much more there is out there to learn. Your channel really altered some of my approaches for the better. By sharing this knowledge this accessibly you are helping other people help others in a better way. Bless you!

Thank you for your educational videos. I finished massage school back in 2012, at a wonderful school in Ft. Myers, Florida while I and my daughter lived there for a short time. I loved what I learned. The instructors were wonderful!
I still have my books that I use when I want to refresh.
However, during the last month of school I developed symptoms of some health issues which made it hard to make it to class. But with the encouragement, and help from the school staff and instructors I was able to finish and get certified. Though I did not pass my licensing test, I could have taken it again, but I could not afford it at the time and I was making plans to move back to my hometown of Michigan.
I love my craft, and yes, trading massages with other CMTs is crucial to self care, besides being able to massage oneself. My only regret is not going to school 30 years earlier.
When my health allows I can help family, friends and my cat. Had I'd been younger and under better circumstances I would have liked to start my own business.
You are great! Keep blessing us with your knowledge.... Special blessings to you👍🙌😇💖
