The Largest Civilization in The World

Imagine a civilization that outnumbers humanity by six orders of magnitude. By one and a half million times.
And it's not some bacteria.
These creatures have created a fully functional social order.
They have a clear hierarchy, professions, and career ladders.
They are long past the hunting and gathering stage and have successfully transitioned to agriculture and animal husbandry.
They teach the youth, take care of the elderly and the disabled, and bury their dead.
They can even reproduce by cloning.
They have easily outlived every single species that prevailed on their planet in the last hundred million years.
But at the same time, a simple infection can turn them into real zombies.
Does it seem like some post-apocalyptic science fiction to you?
And yet, it's not.
It’s all about ants.
In this video, you’ll find out how many ants there are on Earth, how much they weigh, when they emerged, how they live, how they practice agriculture, why their society resembles human civilization, and much more that will surprise and even shock you!
Ants.

I've known ants were amazing for a long time. When I was ten years old (sixty years ago!) I read a children's book called The City Under The Back Steps. It included much of the wonderful, amazing information that this video addresses. I was captivated then as I am now watching this video. I love learning that stretches the mind to places previously undreamed of. Thank you so much, I loved the video.

Ants, with their vast populations and complex social structures, are truly remarkable creatures. Despite their small size, they have built a civilization that rivals our own. From agriculture to caring for their young, they display remarkable abilities.

Just one addition, the fungi not only infects ants, it does the same thing to any insect upon which its spores settles. The fungi always forces or drives its victim upward upon branches, so that the next generation of spores can rain down upon unsuspected insects below. As Spock would say, "fascinating"!

Cool video! My best friend in university who was (and is) a gifted scientist, once told me that the most efficient organism on the planet is the humble ant. They can survive in almost every climate, catastrophe, and circumstance. That always stuck with me.

Never knew about the connection to wasps. Loved the mix of “drama, romance and the grotesque”👍😊

They'll be around until the end of times; they're very resilient creatures.

The Citris ants (Wisconsin) I read many years ago they climb the trees to kidnapp aphids, then bring them underground, farm them as we farm cows. The ants milk them which feed the larva.
