For those that think the camera is not worth it you have not seen the practicality this offers, either that or you use your go pro to film inside your house instead that outdoors. Let me give you a few of the reasons this is a great camera and worth upgrading


1- Image stabilization you need to spend at least $200 just to get an entry level gimball that works decently. This camera includes that for 399. It is extremely practical specially if you are backpacking not having to carry another electronic like gimbals that are usually heavy. Second you cant use a gimball underwater... not even in the rain since most of them are not waterproof. Believe me it is a pain in the rear to carry a gimball turn on the bimball turn on the gopro by the time you did all that you miss the shoot. When in extreme environments like backpacking or waterfall hunting it is another electronic you have to take care off

2- voice command. Extremely helpful. If you place your camera on a helmet on the bow of the kayak you dont need to relay on your phone or the control. This might sound silly to you but believe me it is a pain to take your phone out while kayaking specially if you are doing rough spots on the river. You can virtually place the camera anywhere as long as you voice can reach it you can activate it. This is very convenient. You can compose the picture and do not need to press anything eliminating camera shake specially during long exposures.


3- waterproof without the housing. Good audio quality without the need of a external mic.... yet another thing to carry and spend money Not only that now you can have decent audio while on the water. I have made so many beautiful spring and waterfalls videos where the audio quality is crap cause you have to have the waterproof housing on it and you cant place an external mic in those conditions. Also no more fogging... How many videos have been ruined cause of fogging inside the housing? no need for that any more. The image comparison here looks very similar but do an image comparison of the gopro inside the waterproof housing and one with the camera out of the housing... You will se a difference. The reason is the light is not going directly to the lens and the sensor it has to pass thru a plastic housing that is made of cheap plastic. Anyone with knowledge of photography and video can tell you that the more elements are between the light and your sensor the worst the image is going to look. That is why putting a $300 polarizer filter give s you better images that putting a $10 polarizer filter. The quality of the glass it is very important. In this case lights is passing thru a piece of cheap plastic.


I have use gopros extensively and can tell you if you are doing any outdoor activity that includes rain and water it is worth upgrading

GoPro state on the spec comparison on their site that the Hero 5 Black has "professional grade" low-light performance and the 5 Session "consumer grade".
No idea what this means, but would be worth investigating.

Probably my favorite GoPro is the session because it's so small and nice and gets the job done.

Most people will want to get the 4 Silver or 3 Black. The image stabilization is nice, the wind reduction leaves a lot to be desired (Id still use an ancillary mic). If you only intend to have 1 gopro, save a bunch of money and get a 3 Black. The 4s have the screen on the back, but can be cumbersome to use AND you have to take it out of the case anyway. The app is easy to use and works just like the LCD screen on the back. This is ideal if youre only using 1 gopro (I have 3 of them)

Great in-depth video on the latest GoPro. Nor my young family or I currently own any video camera or camcorder. I am also interested in a 4K capable drone, which would also be a first. Would you recommend the GoPro 5 Black (with Karma drone) or would you suggest other alternatives? Budget friendly of course....thanks
